When Terry and I were shopping for bubble wrap and packing tape, he picked up a new item: shrink wrap! He tossed it into the cart without pause. I said, “What’s that for?” He said, “I don’t know, you never know when it will come in handy.” I said nothing, but was thinking, “This will sit around for years going unused.” I was wrong, and no, it isn’t the first time. I ended up shrink-wrapping everything!
I shrink-wrapped our extension cords to keep them from unwinding all over the place.

I shrink-wrapped my silverware holders. This was great! I unwrapped them at our new house and every fork and spoon was in its proper place!

I shrink-wrapped the lids to the pots. In fact, I shrink-wrapped all lids to their respective holders!
Terry shrink-wrapped the boards for each bed together. The beauty of it was that it left no residue on the items like packing tape would. You just cut it off with scissors! 🙂
A long time ago, I saw an idea on Pinterest that I used when we moved this time. It worked like a charm!
I wrote about another great packing help in THIS blog post.
I have been given lots of jewelry the last five years, and I needed a way to pack it so it wouldn’t get all tangled up. I didn’t have time to buy those soft cases that you can put your necklaces in, so I had to rig something up on my own. This is what I came up with:
I found this cardboard insert down inside one of the boxes we got from a store. It bends down the middle. I laid out the necklaces with space between them and then just taped them to the box at the top, middle and bottom of each necklace. Then, I placed some bubble wrap between the halves before closing it. I put it in the bottom of a suitcase and it traveled fine. I did have a bit of tape residue left on one necklace, but that is easily removed by rubbing a tiny amount of Ronsonol lighter fluid on it with a paper towel. I was out of shrink wrap by this time, but I’m not sure I could have used it for this project anyway.
We are now in the process of settling into our new home. Lord willing, the plumbers will arrive today to begin work on the gas line and to unclog my washing machine drain. I’m hoping they arrive soon! The laundry is piling up! 🙂
I hope you have a wonderful Monday! Thanks for reading!

What a great idea!! I like how you used it to shrinkwrap your silverware.

I think my mom has the same pots you do with the spouts that you can use to pour.

I recently moved and used press and seal plastic wrap around my necklaces. It worked great and no residue!
